to me log cabin homes are a liability because they cost $1,500 per year (in property taxes and community fees) to live in and also at least $200 - maybe more worth of stain/sealer - every 3 years (probally unless you paint them or pay alot to put log/vinyl siding around them)
i like the extra pretty log cabin homes and i also like the home, garage, mini storage unit for sale in virginia yet i can already guess that the property taxes are probally even more sky high on both of those buildings with that home
well to me most all homes are a liability because you always end up sinking money into them and most all homes are a dead asset because you are seldom lucky enough to get all your money back out of them when you sell them
o.k. so i have come up with a plan i am not positively sure - yet i think that these log cabin homes might cost $1,500 a year in property taxes because most all of them are listed as (rental) business property so now i am wondering if they relisted them just as residential homes instead of business property well then maybe that would lower the property taxes on log cabin homes ! ___

log cabin homes have also become something of a status symbol. Celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates have all been high-profile log-home owners.
When logs dry, cracks may open up in the wood, allowing water and insects inside. Some log doctors use thermal imaging to find cracks (cost: about $1,500). Caulking and sealing costs between $1,000 and $10,000, says Tracy Hansen, a log doctor in Jackson, Wyo.
If applied right, log stains, which help prevent rot, last about five years. Applying a log stain costs "$5,000 and up," says Robert Wielhouwer of Crystal Clear Home Services in Garner, N.C. Annual inspections are necessary, he says.www.postgazette.com/pg/05183/531715.stm___
